Miller Tourtlotte Law, PLLC is a Billings-based Montana law firm founded by trial attorneys Matt Tourtlotte and A.J. Miller. With more than 30 years of combined experience, we represent injured people, injured workers, and families across Montana in personal injury, workers’ compensation, insurance bad faith, and wrongful death cases.
Both of our founding partners spent years on the other side of these cases. Matt has handled complex insurance issues for more than two decades and has filed lawsuits directly against insurance companies. A.J. began his career defending insurers before dedicating his practice to injured Montanans. That background means we know how insurance companies evaluate claims, the tools they use to minimize what they pay, and how to counter them.
Our practice focuses on:
Clients hire Miller Tourtlotte Law because our partners handle every case personally, know the insurance industry from the inside, and prepare every claim as if it will go to trial. We deal with the insurance companies, the adjusters, the investigators, and the defense lawyers so you can focus on your recovery.
Matt Tourtlotte brings more than twenty years of experience litigating complex personal injury and insurance cases. In 2014, he left a law firm partnership to focus his practice exclusively on helping injured people, and he has spent the years since securing meaningful results for clients across Montana. A.J. Miller served as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge Gregory Todd of Montana’s Thirteenth Judicial District in Yellowstone County, practiced civil defense, and then spent nearly a decade representing injured clients before co-founding Miller Tourtlotte Law in 2024.
Insurance companies follow playbooks, and we have read them. Matt’s career includes extensive work on insurance bad faith and direct litigation against insurers. A.J. spent his early career working for insurance companies, insight that now serves the people we represent. Our attorneys have guided hundreds of injured workers through claims under the Montana Workers’ Compensation Act, Title 39, Chapter 71, MCA, pursuing the benefits and medical care the law provides.
When an insurer unfairly denies a claim, delays payment, or offers an inadequate settlement, we do not wait for them to do the right thing. We file suit. Our attorneys litigate in Montana state and federal courts, Matt is admitted to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and he has been asked to handle cases in other jurisdictions through pro hac vice admission.
At Miller Tourtlotte Law, your case is handled by a partner, not passed down the hall. We keep you informed at every stage, explain your options in plain language, and make major decisions with you, not for you. Legal battles are stressful and overwhelming, so we prioritize communication and support from the first call through resolution.
Every case represents a person and a family whose life has been disrupted. Our goal is the same in each one: secure the best possible outcome while treating you with the respect and attention you deserve.
Miller Tourtlotte Law is headquartered in Billings, and we represent clients no matter where in Montana their injury occurred. Our attorneys appear in state district courts and federal courts across the state, so an injury in a rural county gets the same level of representation as one down the street from our office.

Our commitment to Montana extends beyond the courtroom.
